Hotel Monopol

The staff are lovely and the hotel is very clean, well done to the team. It’s showing its age, but we like that because it fits the area and feels authentic. Our room was dated, though the mattresses were amazing and we slept very well. The pool area is dated too, but the pool, hot tub and sauna are all in good order. Breakfast was okay, not the best, maybe 6 out of 10. Lovely location, I think the best in town.

The tapas bar at the front of the hotel is one of the best in town, and there’s plenty to choose from at breakfast. Rooms facing the square with a balcony are great. The pool terrace has a sea view, and the location is perfect for a break in town.

The staff made this holiday for us. We tried speaking the language, and everyone was friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome. The service was so good I’d bet you won’t find better, even in a posher, fancier hotel. Eric and Katy at the little tourist information office, about a minute’s walk to the right when you leave the hotel, were really helpful booking trips and offering suggestions without ever pushing. We stayed 10 nights in room 137. It was a little tired, but airy and bright, with a lovely sea view. The old hotel is beautiful rather than stark or dull, and the main reception area with all the plants is stunning. Breakfast had plenty of choice, and the attached restaurant was superb. It’s right in the old town, with bars and restaurants just a two-minute walk away. We especially liked sitting outside in the square and watching the world go by. We felt so relaxed here that it really made the holiday.

I’ve just spent Christmas here. It’s a beautiful old building in an amazing location, close to everything, and the staff are amazing. I’ve already booked to come back in May and again next Christmas and New Year.
