Hotel Riu Garoé

The cocktails at the bar were delicious and very well made, and dinner was tasty, varied, and kept replenished. Breakfast had the usual items, but the selection stayed the same each day. There was a separate basket of gluten-free products from a local bakery, which was a nice touch, though the quality was poor. Buffet allergen labels were often misleading. Most staff outside reception didn't speak English well, so clarifying which dishes were gluten-free led to some awkward moments. After a few tries, though, they made an effort to accommodate us and offered to prepare something special. This is a peaceful hotel with a well-kept garden and spotless grounds, and we thought it was excellent value. The location is quite remote, so walking to the beach or town isn't really practical. The free shuttle was convenient. There's no private parking, but a free public lot is next door, and we found street parking easily even in June. Our room was well equipped and the bed comfortable. Even the cheapest rooms had lovely views of the ocean and mountains. The pool area was relaxing, with plenty of loungers. There were a few shortcomings, but they felt minor for the price. We'd recommend it if the distance from town suits you.

There was lots of free parking nearby, and the hotel is centrally placed for getting around the island. Breakfast had plenty of choice, and both the hotel and staff were lovely. We'd happily recommend it to family and friends. Thanks for a lovely stay.

They sell rosé and red house wine by the bottle, but not white. Strange. Thanks for replying quickly, Jorge, but a stock response doesn't explain why there's no bottled white house wine or what you plan to do about it.

The bar is lovely, with outdoor gas lamps and heaters at night, plus live music. Drinks and other extras are reasonably priced, parking is free next door, and the pool looks warm and inviting, though I didn't see anyone swimming. Breakfast was average for a four-star hotel. Pilsner beer and soda water are available in the minibar. This hotel seems well suited to Germans. The view from the rooms is good, and some have a sea view. Staff were friendly and understanding, and they knew about the noise from the restaurant below. We appreciated being moved to a quieter room. Ground-floor rooms are extremely noisy because they're beside the canteen, and there's no sound insulation. Insulation on the restaurant ceiling and rubber pads under the chair legs could help when chairs are moved, a low-cost change that would improve things for guests. Tea and coffee aren't provided automatically, but when I asked, they brought a kettle and some Nescafe, which I appreciated. Rooms vary, so make sure your travel agent knows how to request a better one.
