The building took a little effort to find, but it was worth it. Staying in such a beautiful building, with a thoughtfully designed interior, in such a beautiful town in Spain felt like a real privilege. We can’t recommend it highly enough. The breakfast was lovely, and we were both happy with the options even though my wife needs gluten-free and lactose-free food. Nothing disappointed us.

We found the hotel in our Rick Steves guidebook, and the cathedral view from our spot was grand. The staff were helpful and friendly, the room was spotless, and the location was perfect. I’d return to Salamanca just to stay here. Que bien!!

We’d stayed here once before in the summer and had a pleasant visit, so I booked another stay six months ahead at a good early rate. We were returning guests, but this time we were traveling with our child. I later realized I’d booked for two people because only two of us had stayed previously. At check-in, Alberto immediately questioned the reservation and number of guests, then said we’d need to pay another €25 for the third person. We were fine with paying that if the accommodation was suitable, such as a larger bed or a proper third bed. Instead, we were shown a much smaller room than the one we’d had before, with two small twin beds and a cramped layout. We were told our child would sleep on a “small sofa,” which didn’t seem to justify the extra charge, so we cancelled because of the unsuitable room, poor handling, and lack of clarity. Only after cancelling did I check the hotel website and see that the room offered included a sofa bed. Nobody had clearly explained that at the desk, and if they had, things might have gone differently. When I went back to ask, Marta was dismissive and unprofessional. She insisted Alberto had told us about the sofa bed, though she hadn’t been there for our conversation, and said it was intended for an 11-year-old child. That left me wondering why the €25 charge wasn’t waived or explained clearly in the first place. Marta also kept saying we’d booked at a “fairly cheaper price.” The rate was clearly advertised and booked well in advance, so the comment was confusing and inappropriate. It made us feel punished for getting a lower price over the year-end holiday period. After the misunderstanding had already been cleared up, the hotel tried to sell us the same room for more than double the original price, which reinforced the impression that this was about charging extra. Nobody tried to calm things down or show any appreciation for our being returning guests. The whole experience lacked professionalism, transparency, and basic courtesy. The hotel clearly doesn’t value loyal guests. I strongly recommend finding somewhere with respectful, customer-focused front desk staff who care about the guest experience. The prime location may attract high-paying guests, but the way this was handled showed a willingness to lose loyal customers. Fortunately, we found a better hotel with excellent, respectful staff, a better view, and a more reasonable price, even though we booked at the last minute.

The breakfast we paid €10 for at check-in was, without hesitation, the best we’d had in a long time. The selection and quality were remarkable, and after just walking the Camino, it was a very welcome treat. We were there for two nights while visiting our daughter, who was studying in Salamanca. The location was perfect, and our balcony view of the cathedral was unmatched. The property shows some signs of how hard it is to maintain a place like this, but we’re not too fussy about perfection. We’ve stayed in plenty of places and understand the challenges of staffing and keeping a property in top shape. Still, our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and I’d recommend it.
