Soho Boutique Duques de Medinaceli Hotel

The breakfast was good, and the staff were attentive and kind. The room, though, was cold and dingy, on the ground floor with bars on the windows and facing the outside street. The decor felt old and dated. Disappointing. I’m not sure this place has been renovated in a long time.

The gardens were beautiful and cozy, and there are plenty of sitting rooms on the ground floor of the lovely vintage building. The restaurant is nicely situated, private parking is a real plus, and the staff were very attentive. My room was spacious, but its only direct light came through a very small patio, with no window onto the street. It’s also quite far from the main city areas. I couldn’t understand why three beers, a salmorejo, and a plate of jamon came to 45 euros. The jamon was very good, so perhaps that explains it. Would I come back? Maybe, maybe not.

The huge rooms, classic gardens, and warm, attentive staff made this historic hotel a lovely place to stay. It’s also a great base for day trips to Cadiz. The building is beautiful and full of history, though anyone looking for the latest fixtures and fittings should probably stay elsewhere.

I had a junior suite booked for two nights, 13-15 May, confirmed on 7 April 2023. Two days ago I got an email saying I could no longer cancel. Now it’s 13 May, 0.22am, and I’m supposed to check in in 11 hours, but I’ve been told the hotel is overbooked and my booking is cancelled. I also have two restaurants booked for those nights. It’s Feria in jerez and about to start in El Puerto, so finding somewhere else now will be difficult. I should be checking in in 11 hours. Clearly someone offered more money for our room because of the Feria. How could a hotel of this quality do this with a confirmed booking? Why book here if they can let you down 11 hours before check-in at the height of a festival? As an honest person, I FIND THIS DISPICABLE.
