Apartamentos San Marcial

The location is near the beach, though a bit far from the center of Puerto del Carmen. The pool is really well designed, and the bar was great. We ate and had drinks there every day and enjoyed everything we tried. The staff were great throughout, and they gave us two welcome cocktails for free. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and they let us check in a little early. The apartment was a bit dated and needs refurbishment. The terrace was very dirty and didn't look like it had been cleaned at all. The Wi-Fi was poor and completely absent in the bedroom, and there was no shower gel or shampoo in the bathroom. Being so close to the airport also meant constant plane noise.

The location was handy, with shops, restaurants and the beach all a 5-10 minute walk depending on your pace. Staff were quick to help with taxis and advice, and the pool was a decent size for cooling off. On cloudy days it could feel very cold, though. The room was okay for the price, but the bed was so hard and uncomfortable that my girlfriend and I both got bad back pain. The couch was dated and uncomfortable too. One night we heard that the room next door had cockroaches, and two days later I found five in our apartment. Very unpleasant. They really need better beds and mattresses, and to look into the cockroach problem.

There was barely any hot water; I managed just one hot shower all week. For most of our last two days there was no water at all, and we had to bring containers of pool water to flush the toilet. The room was never cleaned during our stay, and the beds weren't made or changed. Towels and toilet rolls weren't replenished, and there was no soap. It seems rooms are only serviced between guests. Indoors it felt quite cold and damp in places, and the windows didn't fit or close properly. Internet was only available at reception.

We had a great time and I'd go back to the San Marcial apartments in a heartbeat. We stayed from 5th to 12th December 2025 for my son's 40th birthday. The rooms are basic but clean and had everything we needed. The staff are lovely, friendly and helpful. The restaurant only serves pizza and baguettes, but there are some lovely restaurants nearby. The on-site shop is well stocked with essentials, and the woman who runs it is so nice and helpful. One thing to be careful about: when shopping in the small bazaar shops, try to pay cash. I was badly scammed paying by card and lost over £200, so use cash if you can.
