R2 Bahía Kontiki Beach Apartments

The resort’s heated pool has a lovely sea view and is especially great for kids. It’s also close to the beach and restaurants, and the other facilities were excellent. I gave it only three stars because most apartments don’t match the photos used in the official marketing. Those pictures show the units with the best views, so you could be assigned somewhere with no pool view or only a side sea view instead. Check whether the bedroom faces the street, too, as that’s the case for many units. When we asked to change, the staff politely ignored us and said the pictures were only “examples.” Our balcony did have a sea view, but most of it was blocked by the air-conditioning equipment on the floor below.

We loved how easy it was to get around from R2 Kontiki Apartments. There’s a supermarket nearby, and the main street with its restaurants, bars, shops and beach is just a short walk away. Breakfast had a good changing selection at the buffet, plus hot food made to order by the chef, including fried eggs, omelettes, scrambled eggs and pancakes. The staff were kind, friendly and helpful throughout. We found the large fridge and kitchenette handy for keeping local food fresh, and enjoyed Spanish ham and cheese on the balcony one evening. Our apartment was spacious, clean and well suited to a family, with a separate bedroom and large comfortable bed, plus a lounge with kitchenette, sofa, TV and balcony. A complimentary bottle of sparkling wine on arrival was a lovely welcome. We paid €40 for checkout until 3pm, or €50 until 6pm, as our flight was in the evening. That let us enjoy the pool for most of the day before heading to the airport, and felt well worth it. The pool worked for children and adults, with depths from around 0.5 m-1.5 m. It was one of the highlights and felt family-friendly. The sea view at breakfast and from the swimming area was a nice bonus. Parking was easy, with plenty of spaces on the surrounding streets. We had a great stay and would happily come back.

We’ve stayed here three times now, and the views are amazing. The apartment, pool area and location are all lovely, and the staff are lovely too. There is a steep hill up from the main area, which wasn’t an issue for us but is worth considering if you have mobility problems. We’d highly recommend it.

The kitchen seemed clean, but the sofa had lots of stains and smelled really bad. Cleaning elsewhere was poor. There was so much hair in the shower drain that it overflowed the tray the first time we showered. When I opened the drain, it looked like weeks or even months of buildup. There was hair and pubic hair across the bathroom tiles and sink, and hair on the bedroom curtains and netting. Under the bed hadn’t been dusted or mopped in a while, and my white socks came away filthy. Moving the bedside table and light revealed dust and hair that looked like it had been swept underneath. It definitely didn’t seem like anyone had checked that the place was clean before we arrived.
