Rincon del Mar

The photos online don't give a true impression of the inside. From the outside, the villa and pool looked great when we arrived, but indoors was disappointing. There were seven of us and four bedrooms, though all but one of the rooms looked quite old and dated. Our bed had a navy bottom sheet, dark blue-grey top sheet and pillowcases, and a bottle-green bedspread. In the downstairs en suite, a nail point sticks up from the floor beside the toilet, possibly where a doorstop used to be. The showers and hoses are all old, damaged, in poor condition, and heavily scaled. In the upstairs twin room, for example, the fixed shower head sprays at an angle, sending water everywhere. The kitchen is very small, with hardly any counter space for food preparation. The dishwasher left food on plates in the bottom rack and leaked, so we couldn't use it. The coffee maker needs replacing: it pours badly and the coffee doesn't get hot. The oven took so long to heat that we couldn't use it. The fridge wasn't cooling some things because there was a huge solid block of ice at the back. We switched it off to clear the ice, and it worked better afterward. We'd read that towels would be changed and the pool cleaned midweek, but had to chase this up. The next day, the woman who came to change the towels refused to give us more than the two very tiny dish towels left for us. When I asked once more for another, she took one from the dirty linen bag and offered it. I couldn't quite believe she was offering a dirty dish towel. The pool was never cleaned. The area has a very poor bus service and just one supermarket. It's well stocked, but VERY expensive compared with supermarkets in Mahon.

There are plenty of things for younger guests to do in the apartment, including table tennis, foosball, darts, and a HUUGE 65-70 inch TV. Outside, there's a great exclusive pool. The place has a fantastic view over the city and sea, and is absolutely worth visiting.

The view is clear and lovely, and the place is well equipped. Highly recommended.

The villa could do with some renovation, though the pool is very well situated. It's a superb villa in a great location.
