Fonda Marsal

A cozy, welcoming restaurant in a lovely old town, with nice service. There’s no gluten-free menu, but they have plenty of options and are thoughtful about it.

This is about the restaurant, not the hotel on the same premises. The large dining room has a canteen feel and isn’t especially cozy, though the mountain village views are lovely if you sit by the windows. Service was poor and disorganized. It took ages to order, and then ages for the food to arrive. My small green salad was bland and undressed, and the beans with sausage were watery and completely unseasoned, with brine running onto the plate. The sausage was the only thing that tasted of much, but it was overcooked and dry. I’d avoid the restaurant. The lovely window views and the local artist’s paintings on the walls were the only reasons for the two stars.

We were a family group of 12 at Fonda Marsal this weekend to celebrate my uncle’s 65th birthday. The staff were friendly, helpful and great. The rooms were cozy, and the food was good, traditional Catalan cooking like our grandmother made. The hotel facilities were fine, including a shared lounge with a fireplace where we could play board games after dinner.

We loved cal marcell restaurant. The food was great, and the set price fairly covered a starter, main, dessert, bread and wine. Highly recommend it :)
