Protur Sa Coma Playa Hotel & Spa

We’ve been coming here for 11 years and can’t imagine staying anywhere else. The restaurant is always clean, the food is so fresh, and the staff there are lovely. The hotel stays spotless, and reception always smells fresh. The staff are cheerful, polite and so kind. Whenever there’s an issue, they help straight away. The mini disco is great, as is the entertainment afterward. Can’t wait to come back!

I travel regularly, and for the price this stay disappointed. We booked through Thomas Cook and expected a double pool-view room with a terrace, but got room 294 on the second floor, away from the main area, with a view across the local street and shops. There are only a few pool-side rooms, and they sit directly behind a hedge by reception, so they may be noisy. Either way, what we got felt mis-sold. We were moved to a better balcony location after complaining, but we shouldn’t have had to ask. At 30C, the room was hard to cool. The air conditioning only works when the temperature is below 25C, and its airflow is very weak, so it takes ages to bring the temperature down. We had to keep the curtains closed most of the day to block the sun. Food was average, and the quality, especially of the salads, could be much better. The chef in the theatre was average too. Staff serving tables outside need managing and retraining: they were poor at greeting people and bringing drinks, and made a lot of noise clearing tables. The hotel was clean and had most of the facilities we needed, with more available at the resort, though these weren’t really advertised. It’s a bit farther from the main strip. Drinks were typical all-inclusive fare, with average beer and cocktails, and only some staff knew how to make cocktails. The minibar drinks were a good selection. I’d suggest going B&B or half board instead. To find better food and drinks, you’d need to go a little farther afield, into adjacent suburbs or towns, where there’s a good choice of bars, cafes and restaurants. There are good bus routes to areas including Porta Cristo, Cala Bono and much more. Cleaning staff were great, food okay, drinks passable, and customer service in the outdoor restaurant needs work. We had a relaxing holiday, but ate and drank out a lot to make up for the shortcomings. Would I return? No. It depends what you’re after.

We stayed over the summer and really loved this beautiful hotel and little town. There are two pools, which work well for children and adults, and the food was delicious every day. You can walk to the beach, shops and restaurants in about 5-10 minutes.

We were delighted with our four-night stay after a seven-night Marella cruise around the western med. We weren’t sure what to expect or how the location would be, but the hotel turned out to be phenomenal. From check-in through checkout, we were very pleased with the booking. The French receptionist who checked us in spoke fantastic English and explained everything carefully. She was superb and so helpful. The pool areas and terraces were lovely places to relax, with plenty of sunbeds and no need to rush out of bed to claim one. The pool bar staff were accommodating, and the bar staff and waiters were always pleasant and helpful. We were pleasantly surprised by the food, especially with so many nationalities staying there. Most of it was British with a twist, and we always found something appetising. If you want British bacon, they’ll cook it fresh while you wait. The entertainment was okay if you want to stay in. Our room had a walk-in shower and toilet room, plus a modern control panel just inside the door that lets you turn on the lights by touching it. The TV had all sorts of channels, mostly British.
