Hotel Num

We loved staying here, especially for what we paid, and would choose it again if we return to Salou. The staff were always friendly and smiling. It's a small, cosy hotel with a lovely, almost-new interior and an excellent base for sleeping, showering and swimming. We were out most of the day, and the beach was less than a 10 minute walk away. There are plenty of places to eat and shops nearby, in a fairly quiet area in the evenings. The theme parks were only a 10 minute cab ride away. Our family of four came over Easter, and the heated rooftop pool was a big hit with the kids. It's covered, stays at a warm 25 degrees even on chilly evenings, and was open from 9am to 9pm. The shower was the best we've seen on holiday, with loads of space, strong pressure, body jets and a hand shower. It beat showers at five-star hotels in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Rooms were cleaned and made up daily, with fresh towels. The lobby is small but bright thanks to big windows. Some seating would be handy while checking in or out, or waiting for cabs, which can take a while, so pre-book. Breakfast buffet options were available and looked good value, but we ate out since our children eat lightly in the morning. My family thanks the staff for making our stay such a joy.

Breakfast was great, and we had a good stay at Num Hotel Solau. There's free hotel parking one block away, and the sea is about a 10 minute walk. The pool was nice and refreshing.

The hotel has potential, with a decent location, clean and comfortable rooms, modern renovations and mostly wonderful staff. Still, I left disappointed and won't return or recommend Hotel Num until changes are made. Breakfast was one of the worst I've had at a hotel in this price range: low quality, almost no variety, and it felt like an afterthought. The small rooftop pool was another letdown, usually too crowded to enjoy, with only a few loungers. Most staff were friendly, helpful and professional. Ellie at reception was the one exception, and her response on my final day overshadowed the rest of the stay. I couldn't make calls from my mobile and asked her to call my bus transfer company. She curtly said it wasn't her job. When I asked to use the hotel phone, she said no; when I asked if someone else could help, she said, “no, only me.” Her tone was rude and dismissive, completely out of place at reception. Every other staff member I'd met was welcoming, but Ellie was the last person I dealt with at checkout and left a bad impression. With better training, perhaps she could show the professionalism her colleagues did.

The former Regente Aragón has a sleek, modern minimalist update. Calm and quiet, with a rooftop pool and private spa as nice extras. The Michelin approved restaurant earns bonus points too.
