Hotel Rural Salvatierra

A spotless little gem and a great-value stopover. The lovely woman who checked us in also brought us drinks and waited on us in the restaurant. We enjoyed our stay and would happily return. We were driving from Bilbao, after the ferry, to Lagos 😎 Really good value for money!

After a long day driving, there are some really nice walks nearby, and the hotel itself is peaceful despite being conveniently close to the highway. I’ve been coming for years and have already booked my next stay. The rooms are simple and clean, and the food is straightforward but good quality and very reasonably priced. My €14 evening menu included bread and wine or water. Best of all, the service is friendly and good-humored. I’m sorry I don’t speak Spanish. I do speak Portuguese and French, but now I’m mixing those up too!

The restaurant deserves a special mention, especially the meat, which they cook perfectly. Our room was spacious and clean, and the staff and service were excellent. We only planned to stay one night while passing through, but now we want to make a trip back just for this place.

Friends recommended the hotel and said they’d been allowed to bring their dog, so I tried to ask about staying one night with ours. I sent two emails two weeks apart, both translated into Spanish, and called twice. Neither email got a reply. On the first call, the receptionist told me to send another email. The second time, when I asked if she spoke English, she hung up on me. After four attempts to get in touch, I’ve given up trying to book. I can’t understand how a hospitality business could be so discourteous as to ignore an email written in its own language.
