Hotel New Folias

Parking nearby was free and didn't need a reservation, which was a plus. We may have just got lucky since it wasn't peak holiday season, and it could have been harder otherwise. Our room had a nice little balcony, though we didn't use the pool. The artificial grass around it didn't look very appealing. We paid €129.60 for one night and honestly felt it was much too expensive for what we got. The rooms were old and the whole place looked worn and poorly maintained. You could hear other guests easily. The shower had a strange flow, and the towels and bedding were old and worn too. The price didn't feel worth it.

The shower temperature was very sensitive, swinging hot or cold with a small turn, though the pressure was good. Wi-Fi wasn't reliable or fast, and the hotel sits at the bottom of a hill, which might not suit people with limited mobility. For a budget stay, I thought it was a good option in a quieter part of Gran Canaria, away from the busy areas but still easy to reach them. Staff were friendly and helpful, and housekeeping was good. The room was large, with a sofa, air conditioning, kitchenette, fridge, comfortable beds, and dining table. Mine also had an outdoor table and chairs. The pool was a decent size, with plenty of loungers, so no real fight for space. Breakfast was 11 euros, with a good range of bread, juice, fried eggs, fresh fruit, and hot drinks, plus a nice terrace. It's easy to get there from the airport by bus, about 3.50 euros, and contactless cards usually work. A nearby bus stop gets you to Playa Del Ingles or Yumbo in 10 minutes, and Melonaras in 20, for just 1.40 euros. There's a grill restaurant next door that was convenient and great, and San Augustin shopping centre is close, with restaurants and shops like Spar. The promenade walk by the water to Playa del Ingles takes about 50 minutes to an hour. There's also a taxi rank nearby. Rooms were good value since it's outside the tourist areas. I'd recommend it as a clean, peaceful hotel with easy access to the airport and tourist spots.

After three nights, we were very disappointed. The place felt old, noisy, and poorly maintained, and the price was far too high for what you get. Check-out is at 11:00, but by 11:33 the lifeguard was already pushing us out of the pool area, without any courtesy. Reception staff were unfriendly and unhelpful too. A very bad experience and not worth the money.

We found a cockroach in the corridor leading to our room. Wi-Fi was so unstable it was often unusable. Housekeeping wasn't daily: towels were changed every two days and bed linen every five, something Booking doesn't clearly indicate. The towels were very small, and the TV had almost only Spanish channels.
