La Solana de Babia

The town and surrounding area feel very welcoming. We went to see the lakes and waterfalls, and the scenery was beautiful, like a postcard. The house has large, good rooms, a well-equipped kitchen and a lovely fireplace for snowy, cold days. The beds and linens in the bedrooms could use a little TLC.

Nacho, the owner, helped make the stay very pleasant. The host's knowledge and skill were outstanding, truly a perfect 10. The country house is charming and sits in a lovely spot. The wooden floor gets noisy when you walk on the stairs and mezzanines, which was the least appealing part for us. In wet weather the garden is hard to get around, and I'd be careful driving in because getting a car back out could be difficult.

The owner was attentive to what we needed the whole time, and even opened areas that are usually closed for private use because our group was so large. We were 16 altogether, 10 adults and 6 children, and had plenty of room. The bedrooms were spacious, and the big living room felt cozy with its fireplace. The village is pretty and the surrounding landscape spectacular. Don't miss the tavern or the nearby sights, especially the waterfall. Everything else was perfect, though we'd have liked a few more double beds and fewer twin beds.

The house itself is beautiful, and the setting is one of a kind, but nearly everything inside is neglected and out of date, from the decor and comfort to the kitchenware and linens. The floors are very noisy, the extra beds are extremely uncomfortable, and the only large bed made it impossible to sleep. I can only give it one star for the building.
