Nereida Aparthotel

The staff were kind, friendly and especially helpful, from the cleaners to reception and the bar and restaurant teams. They cleaned our room, changed the towels and took out the rubbish every day. When my daughter needed ice for her swollen knee, they got it for us. I also found the little free book library useful: I'd finished one book at the airport and the other on the balcony the next day, then picked up a detective story and a book about foster care. We had half board, and the meals were more than enough. Breakfast and dinner both had plenty of variety, including fruit, vegetables, and hot and cold dishes, and the food was tasty. It's a shame that lots of hotels, restaurants and shops were closed, though the season was nearly over. Aparthotel Nereida is underrated, in my view, and has a lot to offer for a great holiday. The kitchen was well equipped for boiling water for tea or coffee, so there was no need for a kettle. I paid extra for a sea view room, and the balcony view was priceless. The pool was large enough and open to everyone. You could sit facing the sea or use sun loungers right on the beach. The location also worked well for bus trips and walking along the beach from one end of the city to the other.

The room was lovely and got cleaned every day, and there was plenty of good food to choose from. We especially recommend Aurora and her friend in the dining room. They're wonderful with the kids, put their hearts into the job, and always have lovely smiles. The dining room service was brilliant.

We got brilliant value for money on our four-night stay out of season. The hotel was clean and well looked after, with friendly service, evening entertainment, activities, a great pool and a private beach with a jetty. The coast view is fantastic, and there's a path along it. The high street is within walking distance, with lots of bars, cafes and restaurants. We drove and parked for free at the town car park beside Sumo, at the top of the road, about a five-minute walk from the hotel. Our room had two single beds that were easy to push together, plenty of TV channels and a cooking hob if you want to make your own food. Breakfast and dinner were included, as were drinks. Thanks for the anniversary gift during our stay, it was a lovely gesture.

The sunset views are stunning, and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful. They did a great job replying to my email and upgrading our room. The location is handy for getting around by bus or taxi, with shops nearby for snacks and the usual tat. The room was basic, a bit tired and in need of care, with chipped paint and a loose door handle. The old TV worked, but had few channels. We were on half board. The food was okay, enough to get by, but not especially tasty. The themed meals felt half-hearted: if it's an Asian or curry night, they could commit to it instead of serving frozen vegetables with very mild curry sauce. The food was also warm to cold, and they should invest in bain-maries or something similar to keep it hot. Small things were annoying too, like paying 2 euros upfront for plastic pool cups and not being allowed to take food out of the restaurant, even fruit or a croissant for later. The pool was okay, but the shallow end was very deep, and it looked a little tired. People still reserve sunbeds with towels, the usual nuisance. There isn't really a beach, just a few rocks with sunbeds and a walkway into the sea. Hotel entertainment was almost nonexistent. We saw one great fire and dance show, and they need more of that. Otherwise it's the pool or ping pong. It was an okay stay, but not somewhere I'd want to return to. Fine, not wow.
