Hotel Rural Duende del Chafaril

We had a lovely meal in the small, personal restaurant, and the staff throughout the place were welcoming. The building has been renovated beautifully and makes a strong impression. Our room was spacious and airy, with windows looking out over the village on two sides, plus a private terrace. Hard to beat.

The staff were friendly and attentive when we needed them, while letting us enjoy the peace and quiet without hovering. That fits the hotel itself, which is calm, welcoming, charming, and very well equipped. The rooms and shared spaces are comfortable and tastefully decorated. The restaurant menu is small, but the dishes are excellent, carefully prepared with good ingredients, including some of the region’s best specialties. In summer there’s a pool area; in winter and autumn, my favorite season, the spa is fantastic. It’s in one of Spain’s prettiest villages, and the most beautiful one in Extremadura. This is a wonderful country hotel and our favorite in the Sierra de Gata.

We had a wonderful couple of days, and the hotel, staff, and service were all excellent. There was a sweet surprise waiting on the bed, a heart made from rose petals with heart-shaped chocolates. We also loved the restaurant, from the food and service to the superb breakfast buffet. I’d recommend it for a day or two of relaxing.
