Apartamentos Pepita

During our weekend in La Gomera, we stayed at Apartamentos Pepita. The cleaning was poor, with hair on the sheets and a chocolate bar wrapper under the bed. We hadn’t been told there was construction below the apartments, and the electric hammer noise was unbearable. We’re very unhappy with the terrible value for money.

A complete public health hazard. There was hair and bacteria in the shower, stains and giant mites on the sheets, and dust, bugs, and dried food scraps in the wardrobe and kitchen. The only maid was over 80 and in pitiful physical condition. There were also under-the-table payments, a crime against the public treasury. It shows a lack of empathy and respect for the safety of guests, and for tourism on the island. In short, a very serious crime against public health and a possible crime against social security, as well as a crime against the public treasury. They’re truly eminent. Don’t even think about passing through this suburb. COVID will kill you, and so will this filth.

We had to call and pay for cleaning, and there was no routine cleaning, towel change, or toilet paper. The entrance notice board says cleaning costs extra, €8 if I remember correctly. After I left a review on the booking site, the owners called me a liar. I don’t lie. The apartment was expensive for what we found, and we came in through a dirty alley. A young man carried our luggage and handed over the keys, but we never saw him again. There’s an elevator. Inside, the place hadn’t been swept; the blinds and toilet were dirty, the bathroom was old, the ceiling paint was peeling, the mirror was rusty, and there was no hand soap. We didn’t use the rusty washing machine. The kitchen was new and well equipped, but the table was so dirty you’d stick to it. The big fridge was dented, and the tiny balcony looked onto an interior courtyard under construction. There was no bedside table, the outlet and switch were far from the beds, the sliding door was almost impossible to open, and the wardrobe was in the living room. One mattress sagged, and the sofa bed had woodworm with sawdust on the floor. On the plus side, it was well located and had an iron and ironing board, free Wi-Fi, and a fan.

I live next door, so I can’t really say what the apartments are like, though I assume they’re fine. It prompted me to leave a review. The girl in the office is gorgeous 💖, and that alone makes renting a place worthwhile.
