La Colombina

The beds and mattresses were all right, a little bouncy but firm enough. The room and bathroom looked clean, but the dark grey walls and lack of daylight made the place feel anything but welcoming. The walls seem paper-thin: loud voices from the hallway and the restaurant below kept us awake until around midnight. Open the completely darkened windows for daylight and fresh air, and cigarette smoke from the bar below comes right in. I only needed a one-night hotel stay and wasn't expecting anything fancy, but this was below basic. The tiny, dark room might have been manageable with a clever layout, yet there wasn't even a bedside table. The only hook for a large towel was inside the shower, which was amusing but not useful, and there was nowhere for the other towels for two people or our toiletries. I wouldn't recommend it. The price isn't justified; I've stayed in hostels with more comfort.

The breakfast was very simple. I was given a tiny room with a window onto the hotel's interior shaft, and the toilet was so close to the sink that a tall person can't sit properly.

The included breakfast, elevator, and air conditioning were good to have, and it was very good for the price. What made it stand out was the kind, helpful staff. The gentleman at reception stood in a free parking spot by the front door and shooed away other cars while I fetched mine from three blocks away.

For what I paid, the value was very poor. The rooms were small, the balcony tiny, and the electrical outlets were between the pillows. Breakfast was served in an old, shabby bar.
