I've never left a bad hostel review before this. At reception, nobody told us the door wouldn't shut properly. You literally had to slam it. While we were out, someone got in and used our bathroom to s*** and/or vomit. We told the guy at reception, and he seemed sorry and gave us something to clean up with. Then, on checkout morning, we went for a shower at 10:00 and there was no hot water. It was winter. Such a disappointing way to start our first day of 2026. Thank you, San Fermin 🥳

We arrived and were immediately chastised for not checking in online again by a rude, surly staff member who was too busy watching TV to attend to us. At checkout, the same person was watching TV and couldn't even be bothered to look at us as we left. The room was tiny for four people, with hardly any storage, so we were constantly in each other's way. There was only one central light. The bedding was comfortable but thin and scant, and the night was cold. Street noise kept some of our party awake. WiFi didn't work in the bedroom, only at reception. The bathroom had mould, the toilet kept running, and towels cost extra. All that for 120 Euros. Hugely disappointing. We definitely won't return or recommend it.
We stayed at Hostel Sam Fermin in September 2025. It's a basic but usable hostel in the middle of San Sebastián's Old town, surrounded by bars and restaurants. The location is perfect. It does the job for a night, especially for pilgrims walking the Camino Del Norte.
Great location, but the bars outside are loud, so don't expect a good night's sleep. It's a cramped place without air conditioning. Clean and not too fancy, it'd suit young people looking for somewhere to crash.
€41 on a weekday for a bed in an eight person dorm is extremely overpriced. There was just one washroom for all eight of us, with the shower and toilet in the same room, and the beds were awful. The advertised free WiFi didn't reach the rooms, so anyone needing internet had to hang around in the depressing lobby on the main floor. The man at the front desk was rude and dismissive, speaking very quickly at you in Spanish even when he knew you didn't speak it, and offered no apology.
