Hotel ILUNION San Sebastian

The one drawback for us was the distance from the center, where most of the sights and activity are. It’s about a 35-minute walk, or a quick 10-minute taxi ride or 20-minute bus trip. Even so, my family and I would definitely stay here again when we return to beautiful San Sebastian. The hotel restaurant was convenient and served good food at reasonable prices, so we ate there several times. Breakfast was a daily highlight, with a huge spread of options. Our room was clean, had central air conditioning and the most comfortable beds, with great supportive pillows. The hotel itself was extremely clean, and we felt very safe in the neighborhood. The staff were friendly and helped us get a taxi to the old town each day. They also stored our luggage and called a taxi to the airport when our flight was later than checkout.

The hotel was decent, but checkout was a real disappointment. At check-in, we were told parking was included and to use the garage. We would have parked outside otherwise, since parking was available there. Only when checking out were we told it cost €25 a day, and the staff wouldn’t accept any responsibility.

The room wasn’t very large, but it was spotlessly clean, and the bathroom was spacious with a nice walk-in shower. Breakfast had a good variety and was excellent. Special thanks to Vanessa for friendly, efficient service in the morning. Most staff were helpful and friendly, though the receptionist at check-in was the exception. Getting around was easy. The hotel is about a 30-minute walk from the city center, and bus lines 5 and 25 stop nearby. You can pay for tickets with cash or card. I was satisfied with my stay at Ilunion San Sebastián, but the arrival left a poor first impression. The receptionist was cold and gave little or no information about the hotel or its facilities, unlike the warm welcome I’d had at Ilunion Bilbao. I’d emailed the day before about parking and was told it was fully booked, with only public parking available. So it was surprising to learn on arrival that hotel parking was available for €25 per day.

The staff at the hotel restaurant were rude and dismissive from the moment we arrived, as though serving us was a nuisance. We waited an unreasonably long time before anyone even acknowledged our table. When the server finally came over, they were curt and unfriendly. I’ve never had such terrible service at a hotel restaurant.
