Pensión Del Mar

The shower was the best we had on the trip, and the staff were lovely and really helpful. We were fine with the shared bathroom. This is a small, modern pension on the Gros side of the river, with a pretty walk to the beach and old city. There's not much included beyond free coffee, but plenty of nearby places made that fine for us. Our room got very warm in summer, so we kept the windows open. The little street seemed quiet, but garbage trucks were loud overnight. With the windows shut, it was peaceful. I'd stay again, though it might suit winter better.

For a one-star hotel, Pension Del Mar deserves five stars from me. The rooms are a decent size for the price, modern, and very clean, and the staff are extremely friendly. There's still some traffic noise despite the double windows. Most rooms share a bathroom, which is common in Europe, and the bathrooms here are very clean. We had a great stay.

We had no noise trouble on this quiet street, and it's less than a ten-minute walk to Old Town and its lively bars. The accommodation is basic but newly renovated and spotless. They were very accommodating when buses failed to show and we had to change our arrival time more than once, even though we were arriving outside concierge hours. I'd happily stay here again on my next trip to San Sebastian.

We had to move the next day and pay a premium for a last-minute room elsewhere. We stayed in room 01, with a shared bathroom at the front. On arrival, we were told there was a roof moisture problem they were trying to fix. The newly renovated room was basically clean, but had extensive mould. Reception had closed by the time we noticed. The owner acknowledged the mould and didn't try to fix it. It was during the film festival, and he knew he could rent it again for 120 euro per night. The room really wasn't suitable to let, and renting it while knowing how bad the problem was was wrong.
