San Martín Terrace Apartment by FeelFree Rentals

The room was spotless, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. I was surprised by both. Housekeeping came daily at 1 pm to tidy up and remake the bed, while fresh towels were available on request. My two windows looked onto a small inner yard where people hung laundry, so I didn’t really open them. Still, Pension San Martin was a lovely surprise and I’d recommend it. It was also the cheapest option I found for my chosen weekend in San Sebastián, and the staff shared lots of helpful information. They gave me great help, both in person and on WhatsApp, with planning my stay and making the most of my trip. The location was perfect.

There’s no shared lobby or living room to relax in, and the rooms and bathrooms are quite small. Some noise from inside the pension can also carry when other guests come in late. But the sound-blocking windows and good air conditioning made for peaceful sleep. The place felt fresh, clean, and nicely designed, with friendly staff, espresso machines on every floor, and a printed list of recommended places to eat. It’s in a lovely part of town, an easy walk from the bus station, Old Town, and the beach.

The manager was charming and generous with his time, local information, and beach towels. Staff also took thoughtful care of us, making the beds and bringing fresh towels daily, and adding extra pegs to the outdoor clothesline when they noticed our washing. Pension Martin was remarkably good value in such a popular Spanish tourist city. It was immaculately clean, well equipped, and had charging points above each bed.

We arrived at noon and stood outside for two hours, waiting to leave our luggage before check-in. When we booked, we’d been told a worker would be there. Once a short-haired female worker finally came, she insulted us, saying we must never have stayed in a hotel before and that all hotels work this way. We felt belittled by her attitude, especially her acting superior because of her skin color. We asked to speak with the manager, who never appeared. The service was disgusting. If you work with guests from other countries, basic respect matters.
