From the main gate, the castle looks especially striking on its right side, with very tall walls. Entry is €7 for general admission. It's best to call ahead, since events are sometimes held there and can prevent a visit. This is also the castle where Queen Isabella I of Castile first saw the sea.

There are two ways to take in the tower: climb to the very top for sweeping 360-degree views, or stop at a lower viewpoint for a narrower outlook, a closer look at the castle details, and a short walk along the walkways. Its height and position in the upper town give you a spectacular panorama of the city, coastline, and Doñana National Park. Both options are worthwhile.

The visit costs €8 with no discounts, and now it's well worth the price. The place has improved a lot since three or four years ago, with several rooms and exhibitions, plus an unbeatable view of Sanlúcar and Doñana National Park from the keep. There are restrooms inside. It isn't very accessible because of all the steps, so you'll need to carry little ones.
