Hotel Hacienda

We picked this hotel for our minimoon, even though the mixed reviews made us hesitate, and we were really happy with the choice. It’s secluded, calm and quiet, with breathtaking views and several different spots to spend time. The indoor pool was lovely in the evenings, while the outdoor pool and daybeds were great on sunny days. The spa was amazing, and the bar had a great selection of delicious cocktails. Breakfast had a good range, too. We loved our room, and the welcome was lovely. They gave us a tour and arranged a spa experience and dinner straight away. A few things could be better: service at the bar restaurant was slow in the evenings, and we visited Eden twice for its stunning views, but felt the prices didn’t quite match what we expected. We’d read online in a few places that it was an adults-only hotel and chose it for some quiet time. That wasn’t the case. Kids were occasionally very, very noisy, and we could hear them running and jumping through the ceilings. Perhaps it used to be adults-only before. Even with that, we had a really great experience and highly recommend the hotel.

The view is amazing and the rooms are nice, but the service really brought the stay down. We were here for our honeymoon, and they did nothing to make it feel special. Dinner at the restaurant was painfully slow, and the staff were dismissive. At checkout, they added an extra “service charge” to the whole hotel bill. For the price, I expected more.

The view really is the hotel’s best feature. I’d happily come by for a drink at sunset, but I wouldn’t stay overnight. For the price, it’s a shame how dated and poorly maintained the place feels. The hotel doesn’t live up to five stars, or even four, in my view. The room decor was very old, the walls and floor were deteriorated, and I noticed several leaks in the installation. There’s a humidity problem throughout the hotel, which seems to be covered up with perfume. The rooms are in what feels like an underground area, reached by a stark staircase that reminded me of a hospital.

The views are incredible, with the colors changing as the sun moves across the sky, and service was pleasant and incredible. The restaurant has amazing views and a very capable team of chefs, and people come just for dinner. Getting there means a worthwhile drive up winding roads, but there’s plenty of parking when you arrive. The hotel’s shared spaces are beautifully designed and furnished throughout the maze of rooms and open areas. The pool is small, and it can get extremely hot because the wind tends to come from behind the hotel, making it feel like an oven. The rooms were a bit of a letdown, with small balconies and little to no real privacy since all the rooms overlook one another. Still, we had a very pleasant stay.
