The terrace view was absolutely superb, and our room worked well: we'd booked a double with a bunk bed and private bathroom. It was a fun stay with a mix of young people, families with kids, and seniors, all there to experience Anaga. The kitchen facilities are good, but bring your own food and drinks. The vending machines only have coffee, assorted cold non-alcoholic drinks, and chocolate and snacks. You can pay by credit card.
The terrace and windows have spectacular panoramic views, and you can step straight onto trails in the Natural Reserve. For hikers, it's an ideal base, with buses also making it easy to reach more remote parts of the island. The hostel is high in the Tenerife mountains and very isolated, with no restaurants or cafes nearby. That brings guests together more, but you'll need to plan ahead and bring food, especially in winter when the restaurant on site is closed. The vending machine has only a few snacks, nowhere near enough for meals. There's a large professional-grade kitchen for guests to cook in. It's government-operated, clean, and exceptionally cheap, so the value is incredible. The atmosphere feels a little institutional, though: staff follow procedures and get the job done, but there's not much personal or proactive service. It's a great option for budget-minded hikers looking for quiet and world-class views. The terrace could even work for focused remote work.
The view from the dining room deck is lovely, but people are allowed to smoke there, and one smoker can spoil the fresh air you came to enjoy. A group of young German school students arrived around 9 pm, had a short meeting, then went outside to smoke without closing the door. Smoke filled the building, and the ventilation made it hard to clear: the only air flow was through the two doors to the deck, while reception kept the side doors shut. They smoked until midnight, and it drifted through the windows into the dorm rooms upstairs, which sit directly over the deck. The next morning I politely asked one of the young men to smoke in the parking lot so other guests could enjoy the view without breathing secondhand smoke. He refused, saying he wanted to smoke while enjoying the view and was allowed to do so. He said both he and his friend needed to smoke, then started smoking while other guests who had explicitly said it bothered them were still there. I'm an educator, and I explained that people come to this rural park for fresh air. After I reported it to the front desk, the response was simply that smoking was allowed on the property. I was surprised a government-sponsored hostel permits smoking in such a beautiful park. It's sad that a group of young people from what seems to be a very developed Germany chose to smoke there and showed so little consideration. In many parts of the world, including the US, smoking isn't allowed around lodging, and you can't smoke while hiking. Luis at reception was cheerful and helpful, and I was lucky to have him check me in on the first day. The afternoon receptionist on May 7th 2025 was grumpy. I didn't bother getting his name, but management should be able to work it out. He showed no interest in understanding basic English, and when I told him both bathrooms, upstairs and downstairs, had run out of hand soap and were very low on paper towels, he was rude. There was no apology for the lack of soap over two days, or thanks for letting him know. He seemed unhappy in the job. Guests come here for the peaceful setting, and this kind of grumpiness is unacceptable and unprofessional. Very sad. The cleaning products used for mopping and the laundry detergent were also very strong and irritating to smell while sleeping. Keeping the doors closed doesn't help. Just so you know.
It feels adventurous just driving through the surrounding nature to reach this hostel. Once there, you get a wonderful terrace view, secure lockers, comfortable beds, a spacious common area, and plenty of showers. The living room is cozy, and everyone can use its fridge and kettle. Use of the kitchen requires a fee and a deposit, which is returned after inspection. A great place to stay.
A peaceful spot to unwind and rest. I stayed two nights and can recommend it. Compared with other hostels on the island, it's quieter, more tranquil, cleaner, and more comfortable. There aren't any restaurants or shops nearby, so bring your own food.
