Camping Despeñaperros

Set among olive groves and farmland, it’s very peaceful and works well for an overnight stop. The site is rustic, and while the facilities looked okay, I did spot a few dead cockroaches in the shower block.

The trees give plenty of shade, and the breezes up on the hill were very welcome once the temperature got into the high 20s. There’s a water tap right on each pitch, too. The site grew on me, and I’d come back. It’s huge, with lots of space and lovely views over the countryside. It was very empty in May 2025. The toilet block is old and a bit tired, but clean and basically acceptable. I paid 25 Euros in May. A good stop on the way south, or somewhere to spend a day or two. I’d recommend it, as long as you’re not expecting the Ritz.

We called the day before to book, then stopped here on our way south. It’s a large, open site with lots of pitches in a small village just off the A-4. The facilities were clean, with plenty of hot water, though a little dated. There’s a great swimming pool and a small bar/restaurant. You can walk into the village in a few minutes, where there are a couple of bars and a hotel restaurant. I’d stay again.

The toilets were dirty, with broken locks and shower heads, and the men’s area had ants. The facilities hadn’t been cleaned at all during the 21 hours we were there. I’d planned to stay two nights, but left a day early for the next site. I arrived at 11.50 am and nobody was around, so I had to find someone to open reception. They gave me a plot with a nice view, but there was no restaurant, bar, or pool open, and even the hotel down the road was closed. The roadside picnic areas on the way there were better kept. I’d only recommend this as a one-night stop if you’re desperate. 9.06.25
