Hotel Exagon Park

The pool was too cold for me, though there’s also a pleasant heated indoor pool and steam room. The grounds are large, with quiet corners to escape to, and the hotel is a five-minute walk from the beach and bars, though a longer walk from central Can Picafort. We found plenty of food options, but the layout was awkward: some dishes weren’t where expected, so we had to move back through other guests. The food was sometimes not hot enough. The dining rooms are large, and the spacious bar has a nice adjoining side terrace. On arrival, Exagon looked promising, with a lovely foyer and excellent staff. Our fourth-floor room, 418, faced the side garden and tennis courts, as well as the delivery access area, which could be a bit noisy. There was plenty of storage, a fridge, hairdryer, and an adequate balcony. The rooms need updating and don’t match the rest of the hotel, though they’re fine for now.

For us, the friendly staff, especially the bar team, the location, pool, and good value are what make Exagon Park work so well for a family holiday. We’ve returned many times over the past eight years with our extended family, whose ages range from two to 58. When we asked our 12-year-old grandson where he wanted to go this year, he said, “Exagon Park of course.” The food is always fresh and plentiful, and I enjoy breakfast and dinner on the terrace overlooking the grounds and pool. The evening entertainment is OK, though we often walk about 20 minutes into town for the bars’ entertainment. We always book half board. Other family members tried AI but weren’t impressed, since lunch had to be eaten in the hotel restaurant and they’d have preferred the pool bar. The hotel could improve some things, but that would affect the price. It isn’t perfect: the small, dated rooms and the hotel as a whole badly need an upgrade, and it may not deserve four stars. Still, I’d recommend it for a good-value family stay a short walk from the beach. If you want all the bells and whistles, including jacuzzi baths in your room, this probably isn’t for you.

The room was good, and there was nothing wrong with the food, but there’s room for improvement. I was surprised there were no tea or coffee facilities, since as an early-rising solo traveller I really value having them. The animation staff work hard, but mostly talk to young singles or ‘European’ visitors. I was alone on a sunbed all day and no one spoke to me during the week. It made me feel the staff weren’t aware of all their guests.

We stopped in for a cocktail and had such a nice time. The piña colada was delicious and only 6€. Staff were really friendly, and the prices seemed very reasonable, with pizzas at 9€ and sandwiches at 8€. The pool is big with lots of loungers, and there’s a tennis court too. It felt like a family-oriented hotel, connected to a small beach about a seven-minute walk away. We’re thinking about staying here on our next trip to Mallorca.
