If you time it right, you can join in picking grapes and see a bit of how the wine is made, then taste it with the owners. The casa rural in Santa Maria D'Olo is surrounded by vineyards, almond and fig trees, with Montserrat in the distance and real quiet all around. You can stay in the house or in the charming Yurta nearby, which has its own grill area and pool.

We spent the weekend here with friends for a celebration, and the owners were so friendly and attentive throughout. They live in the house too, but that caused us no issues. The pool looks out over the vineyards, and the terrace was lovely for lunch and dinner. Such a charming country house, and a perfect experience.

The garden and pool were fantastic, and for the price, it felt like a 10/10. We were five friends staying for the weekend, and everything else went smoothly too. The owners live downstairs, though you barely notice them, and they were always happy to help. Their dogs usually stay inside, but we asked if they could come out and they behaved really well. One small gripe: we bought a couple of bottles of wine there, then spotted them for less at a local restaurant/shop.

The dogs were the worst part of this stay. As we were loading our things to leave, two ran toward mine. I was terrified, and the owner said nothing while I chased after them and yelled for them to stop. It was awful, the worst experience of my life. They should have their permits revoked! Earlier, when we were trying to leave, the dogs were at the entrance and nearly attacked mine. My boyfriend managed to shut the door before they could get in. He later went downstairs to warn the owners and found the owner naked in the pool, even though we'd been told we couldn't use it. The owner, barefoot with a towel on, cornered two dogs, but another came when she called. She said we could leave, and then, surprise, we met him on the way out and he attacked my dog. We had booked three days, checking in March 15th and leaving March 17th, 2024, because pets were allowed and I wanted to bring my dog. The listing didn't say the owners lived in the same house, and some photos were of their home. On Friday the owner called to sort out details and asked, "You're not bringing dogs, are you?" I said I was, since that was why I'd booked. He seemed uncomfortable. I told him he could keep his own dogs, and though I was surprised, I couldn't discuss it then. Getting there at night was difficult too. The entrance wasn't clearly marked, I couldn't find the right way, and had to turn back after taking another route. It was raining, and the narrow, winding road was muddy and rocky, with a downhill stretch. The first night was an ordeal. I offered to introduce our dogs the next day, since it was dark when we arrived, but the owner declined. There was no doormat, so we brought mud inside. The stairs up were extremely steep, making our suitcases hard to carry. The kitchen wasn't fully equipped as advertised: napkins and paper towels were missing, the cutlery was dusty, some cooking utensils were dirty, and the dish strainer was rusty. A very noisy water pump was on that floor and could be heard throughout, whether we or the owners were using water, which made it hard to rest. Their TV was so loud we had to turn up ours, and they were still watching when we went to bed. The bed in the so-called master bedroom was a relic in the worst sense. Its mattress sat on another old, torn mattress and was so soft it left my back aching. The bed was very unstable and wobbled with the slightest movement. The canopy was broken and dusty too. In the living area, the sofa and two armchairs were tucked close to one side under a low ceiling. I hit my head twice the first night, then spent the next day crouching there, on top of the back pain from the bed. The owners also went upstairs without warning, which we assumed was because we'd just arrived. We started locking the door with its hook latch, but the next morning they came in and went upstairs before we could unlock it, without permission.

We only stayed one night, and after telling the owner what had happened the next day, we got our money back for night two because we didn't want to remain there. We had planned to use the garden table, but with the dogs loose we didn't dare. One dog barked at us and wouldn't let us leave the house. The owner had come upstairs to say he was going to bed and needed to let the dogs run around, so we had to take ours out to relieve themselves and bring them back inside. This was a year ago, and I'm posting now because I see my review didn't go up before. A group of friends and I spent two days there and felt cheated by the description. It said the entire property was for guests, but we only had the upper floor and garden. The upstairs door had no lock, just a basic door, so the owners' dogs or cats could get in if it was left open by accident. We had three dogs with us and didn't feel fully safe. The owners' dogs were kept in a kennel, but the wind once blew the door open and they came out and attacked ours. It was a scare, thankfully, but these seemed like guard dogs and didn't know how to behave around other dogs.
