Gran Hotel Sardinero

The road noise was awful, since the windows weren’t soundproof at all. You could hear car doors slamming, and the main road was extremely loud. The room was also really dirty. They leave a mini sofa meant for animals even when you don’t have pets, and it was covered in animal hair, as was the floor. Disgusting. The bedding setup was annoying too. The duvet was sandwiched between two flat sheets, so it all got tangled while I slept and I ended up on the uncovered duvet with the sheets bunched up. It seems like every guest sleeps under the same duvet, which I’m sure isn’t washed. And instead of two regular pillows there was one long one. I was not pleased at all.

The cafeteria’s awful. We waited 50 minutes for four small portions of Spanish omelette pinchos, and they arrived cold. The tables were dirty, the service was poor, and the waitresses were rude. They even got annoyed when we asked for extra coffee because they’d have to walk more. Avoid this place.

Eva at reception stood out. She was always smiling, helpful, and made me feel welcome. The hotel faces the beach and water, and the exterior looks lovely, almost glowing at night. My room was quiet and fairly spacious, and even the air-conditioning worked. The service otherwise was okay. Breakfast was adequate but limited compared with other hotels I’ve visited, and I found the menu limited too. Those small annoyances aside, I enjoyed my stay and the beautiful people and city.

We found free street parking behind the hotel, with local wine bars and restaurants an easy walk away. I had a pleasant night here. The hotel is large and looks out over the beach, and our room was a good size and well maintained.
