OLA Apartamentos Cala d'Or

We can’t find fault with the place, and we’ve booked Ola Cala D'or Apartments 10 times since 2023. We’ve already booked another month for 2026. The location, apartments and staff all make for really good family holidays. This year our children and grandchildren joined us for our usual September / October break, and we had a fab family get-together. Paco, the manager, and the whole team worked hard to provide exceptional service, friendly help and advice, and clean, well-managed housekeeping. Nothing was too much trouble, especially when it came to our grandchildren, both under 4 years old, little terrors! We can only praise Paco and his team for going above and beyond to make the accommodation enjoyable.

The staff are nice and helpful, and the hotel has a good pool, which makes it a decent option for families. The rooms are spacious, but I still don’t understand why a double bed, or Queen size, seems to mean two single beds all over Spain. I found that really uncomfortable. The renovation was 20 years ago, and it shows. The hotel needs updating. Our room was cleaned only once during our 7-day vacation, on day four, and only after we asked. By the pool there’s a bar/restaurant serving food and drinks, with tribute band shows each evening. The food is average, frozen fast food, and drinks are a little expensive. Most of the waiters are nice, except for one tall, skinny brunette guy who was kind of rude and checked whether my shorts were dry without warning. I guess he was concerned I’d sit on the terrace after swimming. I’d only return after a renovation. :)

We stayed in building 2 and had both a studio and a one-bedroom apartment. Each had a balcony, and the rooms were fabulous. The location was great, about a 5-minute walk to the beach and restaurants, and right by Cala Dor express stop 13. We also got an allocated parking spot, which was a great extra, and the bottles of water on arrival were a lovely touch. The in-room facilities are basic but good. The tropical garden pool was good, but the pool at building 3 is tiny and not worth visiting. Live events ran every night until late, which we hadn’t known in advance. Some nights the noise was a bit much if we went to bed before midnight, though most of the shows were great. They’re run by a connected company, not actually the hotel. For a 3-star place, I thought it was pricey.

We wanted a chilled week in the sun, just the two of us in our 30s with no kids, and this hotel suited us perfectly. It’s clean, has a nice pool and is in a great spot, just a couple of minutes’ walk from the beach, restaurants and bars. Cala Dor itself is beautiful, an attractive, upmarket town that works well for couples and families. The pool area was lovely and clean, with sunbeds still available in early June. The pool bar has drinks and food, including tapas, toasties, beers and cocktails. It’s a tiny bit more expensive, but handy when you don’t feel like going out during the day. The staff were nice and accommodating, and they show sports on the bar TVs if that’s your thing. The evening entertainment was surprisingly good and fun to watch, but it runs from about 9 to 11.30, so bear that in mind if you want early nights. Rooms are simple, clean and have balconies, plus a kettle and fridge. An iron would be handy in the room, but reception lent us one without any problem. We really enjoyed our stay and would come back for another relaxed holiday.
