Eurostars Gran Hotel Santiago

There's a lovely fountain and an open interior where you can see all the floors from the ground level, and look down from the top floor breakfast room. Real plants hang from each level. The rooms mix modern design with old world touches.

The hotel is out of town, around a 30 minute walk from the cathedral. Parking under the hotel is available for 12 € a day. The room was a reasonable size with a king-size bed, but the mattress was hard. Reception was nice, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Everything was spotlessly clean, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The central location made it easy to reach both the cathedral and the university hospital in just a few minutes. The decor brought Home Alone 2: Lost in New York to mind, with a distinctive mix of classic elegance and modern touches. I'd happily stay again and recommend it.

The room is nice, but feels like a two star hotel room, and the doors are as shown in the photo. The A/C doesn't work and makes an awful squeaking noise. Even earplugs weren't enough to let me sleep. The window opens, but between the summer heat and the four lane avenue outside, I couldn't sleep with it open either. The internal corridor balcony doesn't help, since voices and noise from the lobby and bar carry into the rooms. The elevators take too long to arrive and smell unpleasant. The corridor carpets have discolored patches, and the hotel needs renovation urgently. I would absolutely not recommend it.
