The rooms were clean and nice, and the service was excellent.
Great.
We slept really well in our room, which faced an inner courtyard. Other travelers said the street-facing rooms were impossible to sleep in because of noise from a nightclub right below the hotel. The hotel itself was fantastic, fairly central, and the rooms were comfortable, clean, and modern.
The place was quiet and the water pressure and shower temperature were just right, though you could hear whenever someone turned on a tap anywhere in the building. I suspect the plumbing is a weak point. My bathroom was tiny. To get to the toilet, I had to step into the shower, shut the door, squeeze myself around, sit down, then do the whole thing again to get out. I'm not very slim, and I had to repeat that several times a day. It smelled strongly of sewage in the mornings. My son's bathroom was a normal size, but its toilet clogged on the first day. My bathroom did at least have a three-shelf unit and a power outlet, and I found the setup quite amusing. In summer, it would help to use a lighter duvet filling. We either slept with just a sheet or got sweaty under the huge duvet, though that's easy enough to sort out yourself. We knew there was no air conditioning or hairdryer, and I brought a small hairdryer. The heat caught us by surprise, but in Galicia it cools down at night. The fans could probably do with replacing. The mini-fridge and Wi-Fi both worked perfectly and were real pluses. We rented two adjoining single rooms. The residence is on the eighth floor, with a well-maintained entrance ramp, a spacious elevator, and wide hallways and doors for accessibility. The rooms and shared areas have youthful decor, and each room includes a desk and a two-door wardrobe with two drawers. COVID-19 protocols were in place, and cleaning was done daily. The website showed what we got, and more, with great value for money. The staff were friendly, cleaned daily, and changed the towels and sheets. They were flexible about our unusual check-in and check-out times because of inconvenient flight times to and from the Canary Islands. They tried hard to help, including arranging the extra pillows I requested when I booked, and gave us advice on getting around Santiago. There are shops, cafes, and supermarkets in the area, and the historic center is just ten minutes away. We barely noticed the other guests, and I hope I didn't bother them when I went to check on my son. All in all, everything was very good.
