Hostal Fornos

Segovia has a charming, quieter feel than a big city, and Fornos gave us the comfortable stay in the middle of town we wanted. It’s easy to reach from all sides, with the cathedral and old town a short distance away and plenty of bars, cafes, and gift shops nearby. Our room was cozy, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We could hear street noise and music vibrations from nearby bars at night, possibly because we chose a room with a balcony. The pillows seemed old, and I could actually feel the cotton seeds behind my neck. I also would have liked the TV to be wall-mounted, and perhaps a smart TV. Still, we had a quite nice stay at Fornos.

It was clean, and the air conditioning worked well. The staff were welcoming and attentive, which was the main thing I can praise. As expected for the affordable price, everything else was basic. The mattresses were so hard I struggled to sleep, and the double bed was two separate beds. The bathroom needs some refurbishing, too. Noise was another problem. You hear guests walking along the corridor and opening their doors, and the place sits above bars that stay open until early morning. From around 5 am, street maintenance and recycling collection take over. It’s very central, but clearly not quiet.

The bed was okay, though it could’ve been more comfortable. The room and bathroom were very clean, the linen and towels felt fresh, and the shower was excellent. Reception was friendly, and the room was reasonably priced in a great location. The double windows did their job. The bar opposite was packed in the evening, but we weren’t disturbed. We did hear some street noise in the morning, probably garbage collection, which I don’t think the hostal could do anything about. I’d definitely recommend it.

The place itself wasn’t anything spectacular, but it met what we expected from the descriptions and was very close to everything in Segovia. The staff were the biggest reason we enjoyed the stay so much. They were all extremely nice and willing to help as much as possible. It was a very positive experience!
