Hotel Honucai

The room was small and basic, but it did the job. We had an issue with the air conditioning, and they changed our towels every day. The shower had great water pressure. The pool was a nice extra, though it was cold when we visited.

The location is lovely, and both the rooms and breakfast were great. But be aware that access to the rooftop cocktail bar and pool can be taken away on the morning of your stay. We’d just come back from a day trip and were looking forward to a cocktail on the roof terrace and relaxing on the sunbeds, but were told it had been booked for a private party from 16.00pm onwards. They offered us a free drink, but that wasn’t what we wanted. Very disappointed.

We’re not really hotel people, but wanted somewhere quiet, relaxing and convenient for a last-minute trip, and this ticked all the boxes. The pool was a lovely extra, with great views of the marina, and the restaurant’s vegetarian tumbet was fantastic. Staff were attentive, breakfast was great, and it was close to the beach, restaurants and supermarkets.

The rooftop loungers are really comfortable, and the sea view is spectacular. When I went up before 11, though, staff weren’t there yet to set up the parasols, which need a special stand. A cleaner helped me, but I saw other guests give up and leave. The hotel is also in a great spot, with plenty of restaurants close by and several beaches just a short walk away. The local beaches charged €14 for two loungers. Breakfast was a relaxing way to start the day, watching the promenade, though the choices got repetitive. The selection was still decent, and staff were friendly and check-in was quick. Our room was a little small but had enough space. We were close to the stairs and lift, so noise carried easily; light sleepers should bring earplugs. There was a bottle of water on arrival, but it wasn’t replaced. I was disappointed there was no coffee maker, only tea. Staff said coffee facilities are reserved for more expensive rooms, which seems silly to me for a four-star hotel. The bathroom could use more towel hooks, since the ones inside the shower aren’t practical. The toiletries were useful, but used drinking glasses and the amenity kit weren’t replaced during our stay. We didn’t ask about those.
