Universal Hotel Marqués

We did get the sea-view room we booked, but we'd hoped to sleep with the door open because the hotel is so close to the sea. Instead, our room faced the rear entrance, and garbage collection and other activity made noise all night. The extra charges added up quickly: €3 per towel per day plus a €20 deposit, €24 daily for beach sunbeds, €12 a day for parking, and another fee to reserve pool sunbeds. We were told which loungers were free, but an hour later someone paid to reserve our spot for a week. We were asked to move even though our child was asleep on the sunbed, and there were no free alternatives. The hotel feels a bit outdated. My mattress was so worn that I had back pain for a whole week. Poor value for money, and we wouldn't choose it again.

The location was the reason we booked. Our room faced Platja d'es Coto, which wasn't what we wanted, so after speaking with Maria at Reception we moved to a north-facing room with a great view for both sunrise and sunset. We paid 40€ for the change because of the extra room cleaning. It's easy to get to Platja Estanys and Es Trenc Beach from the hotel, and I was surprised to see the sunrise there too. We had lunch and drinks a couple of times, and the bar prices were mid-range. Breakfast and dinner were nice and good quality. On the third night, we saw a dreamlike sunset in pink, orange, purple, red, and blue. That sunset made the trip worthwhile. I'd suggest adding a roof bar so people can enjoy the sunset and coastline views.

We spent a week at Universal Marqués in a twin room with sea view and half board. The hotel is part of Universal Hotels and has a high standard. The location was perfect, just a few meters from some of the nicest beaches, and there were several free water dispensers. The rooms were well equipped, and the food selection at every breakfast and dinner throughout the week was excellent. The staff in reception, cleaning, bar, and restaurant were lovely, friendly, and motivated. Customer focus really seems to be a known thing here. The room could have been a bit bigger, and sound insulation could be improved: you can hear the neighbors through the connecting door, which can be opened to make a family room out of two rooms. Tip: booking on the hotel's homepage may get you a better price.

That buffet breakfast was a real highlight, and we enjoyed the evening entertainment too. We were a family group of 15 at hotel marques for a week to celebrate my father's 80th. The location is hard to beat, with access straight onto two beaches, including famous es Trenc, and lovely sunrise and sunset views. The hotel was very clean, thanks to the cleaning staff, and the bar team were attentive while reception was helpful. Our standard Seaview room was basic but good value. My parents had room no.327, a superior sea view, with windows and balconies on two sides and about three times the floor space. It was great for having drinks and snacks at sunset. We ate dinner there twice. One meal was fantastic, with freshly grilled prawns, tasty local fish and paella. The other was a bit disappointing, with more ordinary buffet choices. We booked B&B, and the breakfast had just about everything you could want. A superb place that puts real effort into making guests' holidays enjoyable.
