Casa Rural Balcones de Setenil

I gave one star because I couldn't give less. Communication was poor, with late replies or none at all. My check-in was late, but I had kept them informed that bad weather had caused a delay. Check-out was listed as 12:00, though I'm not sure they know what they're advertising, since about half the services they claim to offer weren't there. The place was dirty and full of rubbish when I arrived, so it felt like the cleaning fees were just being pocketed. There were foreign hairs on the beds, a dustpan full of trash, grease and food scraps in the oil can, stained cups and cutlery, sauces all over the countertop, and USED tissues scattered around the apartment. Check-in just meant leaving the doors open and letting you manage as best you could. When I called for an explanation, a woman answered rudely and made excuses for all of it. The listing also claimed things the apartment didn't have: no shampoo, no oil, and no parking. It's in the old pedestrian-only part of town, so I had to leave my car quite far away. If you're considering renting it, take my advice and don't.

This three-bedroom house sits right in the heart of Setenil de las Bodegas, and the views from the apartment are beautiful, especially at night. It was spotless and had everything we needed for a great stay. The town is wonderful, another gem in Cádiz, and we highly recommend staying and exploring. We'll come back in winter. The bathroom was the one problem: the taps barely worked, and the shower was just as bad. The sink taps, shower hose, and shower head all need replacing.

A welcoming, very clean place in a good location. I highly recommend it for families with children, even though there were just two of us.

Setenil is beautiful, and I'd recommend visiting the town, but I wouldn't stay in this house. It was filthy, old, and neglected. The beds were badly made and had human hair on them, the refrigerator had red liquid at the bottom and was greasy, and there were cobwebs on the ceiling. Paper balls had been left inside the fire extinguisher box as makeshift wastebaskets. The kitchen cabinet handles were oily and greasy too. When it rained over the weekend we were there, water leaked through the kitchen ceiling. There was also hair on the shower curtains and tray. The electrical setup was alarming: there were no circuit breakers, just an old fuse that kept tripping because of a spliced wire. We called the owner several times, and smoke kept coming out while a small wire spliced into it instead of a fuse kept burning. It nearly caught fire, and we couldn't even make breakfast. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Everything was incredibly old and run-down.
