Alcazar Hotel

The beds were a bit firm for us, the one downside in an otherwise comfortable stay. Our room was modern and clean, with an easy-to-adjust temperature, a window that opened, and effective air conditioning. The bathroom was small but clean and updated, and the extending magnified makeup mirror was a nice touch. We had a gorgeous view of Seville Cathedral and Tower, especially at night when they were lit up. You’re right across from the Alcazar gardens, and the old city center is only a few blocks away, so getting around on foot was easy. There’s also a rooftop bar with tapas and a swimming pool, which we hadn’t expected. Paid underground parking is around the corner, though getting our mid-size SUV around the tight turns and concrete columns took some care. Have someone guide the driver. We really enjoyed our stay. The location is hard to beat.

The room was comfortable overall, and the elevator worked well. We visited during a heatwave, though, and it got very hot overnight. When we reported that the air conditioning wasn't working, staff told us the hotel switches it off during the hottest part of the day and again at night while most guests are sleeping. I don't sleep well in the heat. They offered us a large fan, which we gladly took, but be aware that advertised air conditioning may not always be available. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. They gave us hand fans before we went out one hot day, suggested a small venue flamenco performance that we really enjoyed, and helped us arrange taxis. The location is handy for sights like Plaza de Espana and Seville Cathedral, with lots of restaurants and shops nearby. We also used a mini laundromat about a seven-minute walk away, which was easy. Breakfast was okay, with a decent range, and we ate there a couple of times to get started for the day. The eggs seemed rehydrated and the meats like inexpensive lunch meat. We also tried a small breakfast restaurant down the street once, and it was pretty good. There are plenty of other places to eat nearby, some open all day in this tourist area.

Our outside-facing room became unbearably hot during the day, and you couldn't retreat there for a break from the heat. The hotel has a bad policy of switching off the room air conditioning during the day, in the hottest part. It cooled down a little overnight.

A big thank-you to Anna at reception, who answered all our questions and gave us detailed tips on what to see and how to make the most of our time in magnificent Seville. The hotel is right in the city center, with excellent transport links nearby. It was impeccably clean, and our window had a beautiful view. Everything about the stay was wonderful, and we left with only positive impressions. Highly recommend it.
