Las Casucas de Asón

We’ve been coming back every year for many years, and stayed this time from October 14th to 19th of this year. The houses are clean, well maintained, and have everything you might need for living there. If something is missing, Chichi and Margari will sort it out. Their renovations and interiors keep the houses’ traditional feel. The location by the Ason River is fabulous, with plenty of walks and caving in the area. The famous waterfall that gives the valley its name is about an hour’s walk away, a beautiful outing that I recommend, also with older children. Coventosa restaurant, hostel, and guesthouse is about a 5-minute walk away. Margari, Chichi, and now one of his daughters, Raquel, run it, and the food is top-notch. If you want a peaceful spot in beautiful surroundings, away from the city bustle, this is just right, and you’re sure to return.

We came for the stunning scenery, but the house was in appalling shape. The sofas and beds were infested with bedbugs. We’re covered in bites and the itching is unbearable, so bad we’ve had to take antihistamines. I definitely wouldn’t stay here.

The service was excellent, and everyone was friendly and attentive. The rooms are nice, seem to have had some renovations, and have what you need, including a kitchen with the essentials. There’s no Wi-Fi at the cottages, which seems hard to find in that area, but there is Wi-Fi further down at Coventosa restaurant, run by the same family. These cottages work for a weekend or a longer stay in the Los Collados del Asón Natural Park, with loads of hiking routes, including the waterfall at the source of the Asón River, Monte Porracolina, the loop around the hill, Los Campanarios, and Peña Lusa. We had a romantic package arranged, which turned out great even though they didn’t get the notification until we were already on our way. They also worked around our gluten-free and dairy-free needs, and the service was so friendly. The place is beautiful, and the staff were exceptional. We’ll definitely be back, highly recommended.
