Hostal El Callejón

There are two large shops nearby, and the beach is close too. The central area is a bit farther away, about a 45 minute walk. Google maps didn’t take us to the right spot. You actually need to leave the main road and drive down a small street between the houses to reach the hotel. Parking is free at the hotel, though getting in with a big car isn’t easy. There’s also free parking on the street. The room was ordinary, but the passing train could be heard throughout it. Fortunately, the trains don’t run all night. The price for what you get was okay.

The woman who checked us in was welcoming, and the bathroom was tiny but clean, with clean towels. The room itself was very small, shabby and noisy. The bedding was just one sheet with a sleeping bag over it, and I wondered how often it was washed. When the heating came on, it sounded like a jumbo jet taking off in the room. There were polystyrene tiles on the ceiling, which seemed a big fire hazard. Thank goodness we stayed only one night. Never again.

This is a lovely, pet friendly hostel with lots of cats, friendly staff and good rooms. We stayed one night but would have liked to stay longer. It’s a five minute walk to a nice beach with a promenade and bars, and there’s a Mercadona shop two minutes away.

El Callejón is a great little 2* hostel, with spacious, clean rooms. It’s in a perfect spot on the Via Augusta, just off the A7 motorway. Dogs are welcome, and they’re allowed to bring their humans as long as they behave! Breakfast is basic.
