The €200 deposit deduction included wall painting, which we would have gladly done ourselves if someone had been present at check-out to tell us. No one came, as it was a Saturday. The other part was for a broken fridge counter, and we accept responsibility for that. The property itself was fine, but dealing with landlord Joan was disappointing and added avoidable stress, especially at the end of our nine-month rental in 2023-2024. Both deposits were held past the agreed timeline because Joan was on vacation and unreachable. Rather than actively handling it, Joan left all follow-up to Mediterranean Way, the realtor, and relied on a loosely worded contract they had prepared. It said professional cleaning would be arranged and charged to the deposit, so we left without doing a deep clean. Later, we received photos of areas said to be unclean, leaving us confused about whether we were expected to clean them ourselves as well as pay for professional cleaning. We never got clarification. Joan was unresponsive and depended too much on the realtor, with little initiative or flexibility to resolve things fairly. I wouldn't recommend renting from someone who hands off responsibility but still controls decisions without being available to address them.
