Casa Rural Lomito del Pino

There are several nice walking trails close by, and they’re well suited to children. The hosts are wonderful. The house has everything you need for a relaxing stay, and the dirt road in is easy enough to drive along. With no artificial lights around, the starry sky is breathtaking.

I can only speak from my own experience. We took advantage of a rare rainy spell to get out of the city and look for the rest you can only find in the countryside and mountains. The drive took an hour and twenty minutes, and the green mountains after the recent rain were lovely. Friendly people met us and showed us to the house. We were excited to try a rural stay for the first time, since we usually go to big hotels with all their comforts, but that excitement faded fast. The house seems suited to the island’s usual weather, where it can be cold but doesn’t rain much. In the rain, getting down to the bathroom was extremely difficult, especially at night, and we needed a raincoat just to reach the kitchen. We’d imagined having tea on the nice balcony, but carrying something hot across the rain while keeping our balance on wet rocks was impossible. By morning we just wanted to stay in the room. The bed was uncomfortable and sagged, leaving us with back pain. There wasn’t even a basic TV to help pass the time. We left a day early because the forecast called for heavier rain, and staying in those conditions was impossible. The accommodation is simply not prepared for that kind of weather. It felt like camping indoors. Some people may enjoy it, but I didn’t. They could do better, and the issue isn’t the rain itself, it’s that there’s no roof over the bathroom. I don’t recommend it.

Carlos and his family were wonderfully hospitable and attentive when anything unexpected came up. The house is a beautifully restored old place with the comforts you need and enough privacy to properly switch off. We spent two nights surrounded by peaceful nature and watched a breathtaking sunrise, with the sun warming us as we drank coffee. If you’re after quiet, nature, and privacy, Lomito del Pino is a great fit. Just keep in mind that the access road is an unpaved forest track, so you’ll need a suitable car.

Everything we needed was in this beautiful, tastefully decorated house. A perfect spot to enjoy nature and switch off. We’ll definitely come back.
