Hostal Los Gavilanes 2

We had confusion and trouble sorting out transport while planning our trip from Cordoba to Toledo. José and his boss, Javier, stepped in after I spoke with José, and they helped make this one of the best stops in our five weeks in España. I’d been unsure about the word 'hostal' because I prefer a private room and bathroom, but our room went well beyond what I expected. It was very clean, had a west-facing balcony, and everything worked properly: the in-room washing machine, fully equipped bathroom, and kitchenette with a clean espresso machine. Hospitality is what the staff at Hostal Gavilanes II focus on. There’s so much to see and do in Toledo, one of Spain’s understated treasures. Don’t overlook Hostal Gavilanes II as a place to stay. Our visit exceeded my expectations. I might just stay!

The staff were extremely friendly, thoughtful, and helpful. The small hotel itself was relaxed and clean, with a comfortable room that was great value. It’s just a ten-minute walk to the beautiful Old Town. The hotel’s bar next door was busy with both locals and visitors, and had a great atmosphere.

They cancelled my reservation after I said I’d arrive later, even though they’d told me a late check-in was fine. I had to find somewhere else to stay. Given the situation, they could at least have tried to find a room for me at another hotel. While the receptionist was on the phone with his boss, close enough for me to hear, he referred to me as "este tio" (this dude, this guy). Not professional. They did return my money a few days later. Edit: now they say I’m lying. I did call the hotel, and the receptionist’s explanation was that the management was changing and the groups hadn’t communicated. To be fair, they did offer me the room again at almost 20:00, but by then I’d already found somewhere else. The hotel now saying I’m lying is repulsive, to say the least.

A brilliant place to stay. The room was great, staff couldn’t have been more helpful, parking was good, and it’s a five-minute walk to the town center. Breakfast was good, though you could find a better one. Still, it’s truly good value for money and you won’t be disappointed. I’ll definitely stay again. There’s also a great café next door with good, cheap local food.
