Camping- Bungalows San Antón

The bus setup was such a bonus. You can buy the €6 tickets at the bar, and buses pass the campsite regularly until 10am, every 15 minutes between 8 and 10. For the national park, though, head toward Torla first. It sounds backwards, but the bus picks you up nearly empty, then takes a detour of under 10 minutes to Torla, where people are queued up. That way you skip the line. We stayed four nights at the start of September and loved the place. The hosts were welcoming and so helpful, and gave us a bottle of wine, a really nice gesture. Our cabin had a very comfy bed, a great bathroom with a strong hot shower, and a well equipped kitchen. There are amazing views across the campsite, plus a terrace bar with good coffee and breakfast treats in the morning, or drinks in the evening with the mountains in view. The little shop is useful for emergencies, with prices similar to Torla’s supermarkets, though those have more choice for cooking. It’s an easy 20 minute walk into town. For us it was the best place to stay for this trip, and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Torla.

The site has an aggregate running all day and night for some reason. It makes a lot of noise and puts out horrible petrol fumes. I couldn’t believe that a place this nice could be so disrupted by it. Don’t come expecting fresh mountain air, it felt like camping beside a lorry that’s left running. I can’t recommend it.

You can get tickets for the national park bus at the campsite for €6 per person, but don’t count on it stopping there if it’s full. My impression was that it was full most of the time, even from the morning. When there’s room, buses stop at the site from 08:00 to 10:00, and you need to wave to the driver. Most passengers board in Torla, where the parking area is large and easy to reach in a big vehicle, so I’d drive down and park there for free. The views at this small campsite are amazing. The tent pitches are great, but there are few spaces for vans, campers or caravans, and the ground isn’t level. There also wasn’t enough warm water for showers or dishes, and nowhere to empty a chemical toilet.

The toilets and showers were clean, and there’s a little bar with good prices, some food and a fantastic view. The location was the most scenic I’ve stayed in, with lovely views toward Ordesa valley. It’s also very convenient for getting to the valley: the bus stops at the campsite, and you can buy tickets at reception without going into Torla.
