Albergue Rojo Plata

There aren't many Camino choices in town, and this is a very basic place to sleep for the night. The kitchen is easy to overlook since it's small and away from the eating area; cups, dishes, and cutlery are kept there. You can buy milk and beer from the fridge, which is a nice extra. Breakfast won't keep you going for long, though there's a grocery store nearby.

For the price, it was just the modest, cozy place I expected as I walked the Camino de Santiago. I felt very welcome and was treated with a lot of respect. I'd gladly stay again.

The host was welcoming and the place was clean, but it wasn't comfortable. We paid €112 euros for a dormitory for three, which felt steep for what we got. The clean towels were so small they weren't enough to dry off properly. The linen was clean, though we had to make our own beds, which was fine, but the under sheets and over blankets had stains. The beds creaked loudly whenever you turned over, enough to wake you. There was a nice fridge with drinks.

I had to change my Camino Via de La Plata plans because of family issues, after booking this albergue ahead. My email asking to cancel, sent three days before, got no reply. Through messenger I was told cancellations needed at least three days' notice, so there'd be no refund. I also asked if my Camino friends could take the booking by changing the name and date. The answer was simply 'No'. I found the response completely lacking in empathy and professionalism, with no flexibility or care for pilgrims. My friends later said the owner was unfriendly and unhelpful, and that the hostel was very poor for the price, with hardly even the basics. I hate writing this, but hope it helps fellow pilgrims make an informed choice. Be aware.
