Hotel El Turcal

We had a great time unwinding by the pool. The hotel is lovely, with nice decor and a pleasant garden. The owners were really kind, and the local food was good quality. The one thing that could be better is the sound insulation between the bedrooms.

The hotel brings together classic rural details and a more industrial, modern look. The rooms are cozy, the setting is peaceful, and the hosts are friendly and welcoming.

The common areas were uncomfortably hot when we visited, and the air conditioning wasn't on. Aside from that, the hotel is clean, charming, and well kept, with very good service. The biggest issue was the food. It's expensive and there's not much choice. We ordered Iberian ham expecting good quality, freshly sliced ham, but got pre-packaged slices like you'd find at any supermarket, at a very high price. The tomato carpaccio was just four thin slices, less than half a tomato altogether, and the price was outrageous. Breakfast also felt meager for what it cost and had little variety. The hotel is otherwise fine, but these things need improvement.

The building is beautiful and the room is spacious, though its bathroom feels outdated. I paid exactly €190 a year ago, which is an outrageous price. I wasn't bothered by people in the shared areas, but I was by guests playing loud music by the pool without being told to stop, drinking beer in the water with bottles propped on the edge, and having a picnic at the next table while I ate dinner on the hotel terrace. The people were kind, and it's a lovely place, but the price is still exorbitant. I also disagree with the owner's reply to a review I just read. If you want arriving guests to have access to the outdoor areas, including sun loungers, parking, and the pool, then late check-out shouldn't be allowed. A guest arriving can be just as inconvenienced by someone using their parking space after paying for late check-out as by someone who's kindly been allowed to stay and use the facilities a little longer.
