Hotel GHT Costa Brava & Spa

Tossa de Mar is beautiful, with views that take your breath away and little shops and restaurants tucked down side streets that look like a film set. We had our first holiday together here, and it'll be one to remember. The hotel is fairly basic, but that was no problem at all. The staff were amazing, the food was lovely, and there's a cute little spa by the pool. The location is ideal, about a 5 minute walk from the beach and the other high street with all the shops. We paid £600 total for a week with half board, which was spectacular value. We'll be going back next year. Absolutely outstanding, 5*/5*.

The main issue for me was the Wi-Fi. I needed to work on my laptop, but it worked on my phone and tablet and not on the laptop because the GHT chain uses an outdated SSL security script. I understand they know about it, but it still hasn't been fixed. The staff suggested going to a coffee shop and paying to use its Wi-Fi, which is what I ended up doing. I've never had trouble connecting at other hotels, cafes or restaurants, and I'm now changing hotels because of it. The single room had a balcony, a desk and enough space for me, with a great shower. It felt fairly renovated, while the spa seemed a bit dated and the gym was very small. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the beach and castle are a short walk away. The guests seemed to be mostly older people and some families, with few solo travelers. It can be a bit noisy, so bring earplugs.

We loved the food, with lots of choice at both breakfast and dinner. Everything looked immaculate, from the plates and glasses to the cutlery. The chef was a pleasure to meet, always welcoming guests, though it seemed like a lot for one person to manage at peak times and perhaps another chef at that station would help. The location is excellent, close to the beach and amenities, and about a 10m walk to the main bus station for trips to Barcelona. There's a small gym and spa, both free, though we chose the beach and our daily walks instead. Massages cost extra and, if I remember correctly, start at about €30. There was entertainment almost every night, including a fantastic magic show. The town is relaxed and doesn't have loud music, great if you want to unwind. There are a couple of bars for dancing and karaoke, which I'll leave you to discover. We'd LOVE to visit again!

Chef Anna is what made this hotel feel so special and memorable. Her cooking was excellent, and she took the time to greet every guest in their own language with warmth and a good mood. The homely welcome she created made people feel appreciated. The food throughout our stay was delicious, with a huge variety at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Staff across the hotel were attentive, friendly and ready to help. The place itself was modern, clean and well equipped, with a welcoming atmosphere, a swimming pool, spa, gym and jacuzzi. It is a short walk from the beach and not far from the historic city centre, making it convenient for both relaxing and sightseeing. I can't wait to return!
