Hotel Rural Pepe Alvarez

There’s been a lot of recent investment inside, and the stay was excellent value. One evening, when the owners’ restaurant wasn’t open, they kindly drove us to another one. Thanks for a memorable visit!

The people were very friendly, and even made us bocadillos to take along as trail food. Breakfast was huge and Andalusian, just right before a hike. It’s a simple but really nice hotel, with beautiful rooms that were squeaky clean. Highly recommended as a base camp for the Sierra.

We’d definitely stay again. The lovely couple who run the hotel were friendly, helpful and charming, and the room was spotless. Breakfast was excellent too. There’s a bar inside, and it looked like there might be a restaurant as well, though we visited in winter, so I assume that’s seasonal.

The couple running this hotel are about as nice as you could hope to meet in a mountain town. When I stayed in early September 2019, I was travelling alone and exploring the surrounding mountains. My Spanish was only about two hundred words, enough for basic conversation, but they were patient with me, always smiling and taking time to work things out. When I asked where I could park nearby, they let me leave my car outside. I was heading out at 6am the next day, before breakfast, for the seven lakes. They kindly offered, as best I could understand, to pack breakfast or lunch for my trip. I declined because I already had food for the whole day. The hotel and room were clean and well cared for. I make a point of taking off my hiking boots before going back into hotels so I don’t track dirt inside. The breakfast was nice: coffee, orange juice, yoghurt, toast, cheeses, hams, a muffin and a few other things, served with a smile and a friendly chat. I plan to return to Trevelez next year and book here again.
