Ana was delightful and very hospitable. We stayed in a beautiful 16th-century Palacio, in a lovely room at the top with views over the garden. Getting there through the baronial library made the experience even more special.

The garden is charming, and you can pick an orange from the trees or play chess in the lounge. Ana, the hostess, is wonderful. It's a beautiful, unique hotel.

Trujillo feels like the most authentic city we've seen so far on our Extremadura road trip, and this hotel is a real jewel. It's in a former palacio, with large, luxurious rooms and plenty of books to read, or buy if you like.

We didn't feel welcome at all. Traffic delayed us by an hour, and then, in the dark, we couldn't find the hotel using Google Maps. The woman there showed no empathy and only complained that she'd had to wait, even though the delays were out of our control. Customer care was among the worst I've experienced. Don't go with family, they aren't flexible.

The pool has a spectacular view. The place itself is beautiful, full of architectural oddities and an eclectic art collection.
