Hotel Rural Aguazul

We booked rooms for a group three months ahead, expecting one room per person. When fewer people ended up coming, they wouldn't let us cancel. She didn't charge us for those rooms, but then sold them again, and acted as if she hadn't noticed that we no longer had one room each. After a lot of arguing, we eventually got back the money for rooms we'd paid for that she had resold. The staff at the rural guesthouse in the same village were lovely and much more flexible. Here, it felt like greed was driving the whole experience. The person running this hotel came across as ruthless and completely unwilling to bend.

We had a great time unwinding here, and it was a handy base for visiting beautiful Burgos villages such as Orbaneja del Castillo. The owner was so welcoming, even leaving chocolates in the room and sharing plenty of tips for local places and restaurants. You can feel the care that goes into this place. We were close to all the area's points of interest, and the accommodation was spotless, with care taken over every detail. The breakfast was really good, especially with those lovely views. Service was spectacular, and everything was explained to us so thoughtfully.

The location makes it easy to explore the Rudrón Valley, the Upper Ebro Canyon, and beautiful villages like Orbaneja, Puentedey, Frías, Poza de la Sal, and Oña. There are also unusual places nearby, including the "Ojo de Guareña" (Guareña Eye). The Hotel Rural is small, but it has a charming look and is decorated with style. Mar, the owner, really looks after her guests. Breakfast includes juice, milk, pastries, cold cuts, and toast with olive oil or jam and butter, served at individually arranged times. One tip for couples or families: pick one of the larger rooms. The single room is really only suitable for one person.
