Parador De Tui

After long flights and delays, this was our first stop, and all the staff were gracious. Rebecca and Valerie at the front desk were especially helpful and informative. Our rooms were clean and orderly, and the grounds were beautifully kept, with the Old Town close by. The dining room served great coffee and breakfast. My one wish is that they’d replace the hairdryers: they’re so old they’re almost useless.

The outdoor pool was unexpectedly lovely on a cool day, the restaurant food was excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Like most paradores, it’s a stunning old building in a beautiful setting. My small complaints are familiar from other places like this: at this price there should be free water in the rooms, and the building needs some repairs. There was a big chip in the bath and plaster peeling off the walls. At almost 200€ a night, I expected it to be perfect.

Breakfast was excellent, and Tui is an easy walk away on a pretty path beside the river. We stopped for a night to break up our drive to Vigo and were glad we did. It was a somewhat last-minute trip, so only the standard room was available. It was quite small, but still charming. If you can, book a larger room unless you’re travelling alone. We didn’t have dinner at the restaurant. I recommend it!

It’s a peaceful place, with lovely views of the river and cathedral. The river walk is just a short trek away and very pleasant. Leave the window open at night and you can hear the rain and sounds of nature.
