Apartamentos Hiedra y Tapinería Mercado Central

The apartment had a lovely terrace and was quite centrally located near the Central Market, but the smell was completely overwhelming and the place was very dirty. It smelled of sewage even after they sent a plumber to try to clean the drains. We found crumbs from previous guests, old nail clippings on the floor, and hand marks left on the cabinets. It seemed they replaced the bed sheets and left everything else. Neither the location nor the terrace could make up for how awful the odor and cleanliness were. Stay clear.

The location was good, and the “so called apartment” was fairly clean. That’s about all I can say for it. After we asked to change rooms, the managers offered no support or empathy. They weren’t even on site, everything was handled by phone. The noise made it hard to sleep, with major reconstruction happening throughout the area, plus sounds from the street and corridor. The views weren’t worth much either: one window looked onto a service room, and the others faced a pipeline or a neighbor’s very close balcony. The layout was a problem from the start. The tiny kitchen is at the entrance, basically a little corridor with some utensils. To reach the toilet, you have to walk through the parents’ room, where the old toilet and shower are located. That left no privacy. The parents’ room and bathroom clearly hadn’t been renovated in a long time. The toilet seat is tucked under the sink, so you can’t sit straight, and the shower is a small bath with an old-fashioned curtain. There was only a tiny 40 cm wardrobe for storage in an apartment meant for four. The living room upstairs was relatively okay and even looked like the photos, but getting there meant climbing 16 rather high stairs. We had small kids, so at night we blocked the stairs with furniture. If they needed the toilet, they called from upstairs, and one of us had to go up and down twice to take them and bring them back. The other parent would wake up too, since we had to pass through the parents’ room. Going up and down those stairs 64 times every night was no fun. This place isn’t suitable for more than two people. Even as a couple, I’d go elsewhere.

The location felt good and safe, and the locks were solid. There were also padlocks next to the door to keep your keys. But the walls are so thin you can hear the neighbors talking loudly.
